SeeMeCNC H-1 3D Printer Project (hardware and plastic construction)

I received my H-1 Hardware and Plastic kit from SeeMeCNC in the post about three weeks ago, but decided to wait until they posted the build instructions before building the machine. Two weeks ago, they posted the instructions, and I got to work putting it together.

First off, I believe the part count for the H-1 is much higher than that of the RepRap Mendel (and probably the other RepRaps as well). But following the instructions was simple, and construction was much more satisfying than the Mendel. Only a few holes needed drilling, and bending the threaded rods was actually quite simple.

To bend the threaded rods, I used a vise and two thick bolts (~1/2″ diameter). I placed the bolts in the vise longways (the threads will should be parallel to the vise opening) and clamped down. Here’s a diagram for clarification:

Using that setup, you can bend the rods easily, and with a relatively tight radius. Just bend each side to the angles shown in the H-1’s instructions, and they should come out looking pretty good. I was even able to thread nuts past the joints, but you won’t need to do that for the assembly.

After less than a day’s work, I was mostly complete with the finished frame assembly and extruder. The extruder that they included is a fantastic piece of work and is of the highest quality. I’ve included some pictures in the gallery below.

If you have any questions, or need help building your own H-1, let me know in the comments!
